Creating a great guest bedroom can go a long way when it comes to making your overnight guests feel welcome and comfortable in your home. After all, you want your family and friends to have a memorable and enjoyable stay. Here are some of our top tips for designing the perfect guest bedroom that is inviting and pleasant for your guests.

Focus on Comfort

Comfort should be your top priority when designing your guest bedroom. Furniture-wise, having a comfortable bed for your guests is of paramount importance. It may seem economical to purchase a less expensive bed for your guest room since it won’t be used on a regular basis, but a high-quality bed and mattress can make a world of difference when it comes to ensuring that your guests have a comfortable stay at your home.

Aside from a comfortable bed, it’s also a good idea to add a cozy lounge chair or reading chair to your guest bedroom. That way, your guests will have a spot to relax that’s separate from the bed.

Keep Decor Simple and Tasteful

When designing your guest bedroom, it’s best to keep it simple when it comes to decor. Try to keep the number of accessories and knick-knacks to a minimum so the room doesn’t feel cluttered or overwhelming. A guest room that’s too busy can seem less inviting to your guests and make them feel out of their element.

Keep in mind, though, that simplicity doesn’t have to mean boring! Feel free to incorporate your personal style into your guest bedroom decor, but don’t go overboard with decorations.

Make Space in the Closet

For many people with a guest bedroom, the spare closet can become a place to put things that they don’t want to get rid of but want to keep out of the way. While it may be convenient for you to store these items in your guest bedroom closet, it will prevent your guests from having ample space to store their belongings. That said, be sure that your guest bedroom closet has plenty of room for guests to hang their own clothes. If any of your personal belongings must be kept in that closet, keep them in a spot that isn’t immediately visible to your guests.

Provide Entertainment

Add a list of your favorite places to visit and enjoy in the area, so when they want to adventure out in the area, they know your favorite spaces to stop by.  But don’t assume that your guests will always want to venture out into other areas of your house for entertainment. After all, everyone appreciates a little time to themselves. It’s key that your guest room has some form of entertainment. We recommend books, magazines, and other reading materials. Additionally, feel free to branch out and put some board games or playing cards in the closet, or even some puzzle books. That way, your guests will have plenty of options for ways to occupy their time while in your home.

Don’t Forget the Essentials

No matter what you end up putting in your guest bedroom, there are some items that are simply necessary to have. Here are some essentials that you should be sure to keep in your guest room:

  • Fresh bedding with multiple pillows
  • Extra blankets
  • Nightstand with a clock and lamp
  • Trash can
  • Clean towels and basic toiletries
  • Full-length mirror
  • Night light

By adding the above items to your guest room, you can rest assured that your family and friends will have everything they need when they come to visit.
